Duties of an Engineer IV Include:
- Performs a variety of engineering duties of a complex nature which may include any combination of program and project management, infrastructure maintenance and repair evaluation and assessment, development and review of plans and specifications, field engineering, project coordination, and management support for operation and maintenance of public facilities.
- Assist in the planning, direction, management, and supervision of an operational bureau to provide for an efficient and productive staff; and provide training, supervision, and assistance to professional staff in preparation or review of design drawings to ensure City standards are adhered to and that good engineering practices are followed.
- Requires skill in effective methods of personnel direction and assignment to balance workload, personnel evaluation, resolution of personnel disputes and requests; highly skilled in effective oral and written communication and in the use of computers and computer programs; ability to exercise supervision over and provide training for staff.
- Provide comprehensive engineering and management support in all areas of engineering for the development of capital projects such as those that appear in the City’s six-year capital improvement program (CIP), including cost estimates, and related items for the City to budget for its capital improvement projects.
- Plan and provide recommendations for bureau budget preparation and other aspects of local government bureau administration.
- Provide professional response to citizen inquiries concerning specific projects to properly inform them as well as incorporate their input.
- Maintains records and prepares difficult reports to meet City time schedules, budgets, and standards.
- Reviews recommendations of staff; derives solutions and prepares final reports for submittal to higher levels of management on projects, budgets, City contracts and agreements, and citizen complaints for maintenance related items.
