What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Secretary II position at City of Virginia Beach?
The Virginia Beach City Attorney's Office seeks a talented, focused and experienced Legal Secretary II to perform duties with emphasis on cases involving child abuse, child neglect, adoption and foster care. This position will work with the Litigation/Social Services Team, a high volume, very detail-orientated team that interacts with many individuals who are working under deadlines and stress. This position will interact daily with social workers, the court, and the clerk's office in a friendly but professional manner building positive relationships.
The successful applicant must be:
- A self-starter capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, possess excellent written and oral communications skills and possess the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in daily problem-solving.
- Understanding and compliance with deadlines, confidentiality requirements and prioritization of work tasks is required.
- Will work with multiple attorneys under the supervision of the Legal Office Administrator.
- Requires someone who is flexible, organized, able to assist the attorney in the routine work without constant supervision and the ability to handle change in work assignments.
- Applicant must have superior computer skills with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro.
- Applicant needs to be able to navigate legal search engines and be familiar with OCRA and PACER.
- Familiarity with Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, the Community Services Board, the Virginia Beach Courts and familiarity with the basics of criminal court matters is preferred.
