What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planner II position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for a Planner II to support both the Planning Commission and Historical Review Board.
Duties of this position include:

Prepare and present reports for public hearings to various boards or commissions.

Prepare reports and maps on topics such as land use, zoning, area planning, comprehensive planning, Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area, urban design, and wetlands.

Provide spatial analysis to be utilized for area and comprehensive plans.

Serve as staff liaison to various City Council appointed boards, commissions, and committees to ensure development follows proper guidelines.

Evaluate or assist in the evaluation of re-zonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, subdivisions, conditional use permits, variances, and other proposals.

Coordinate community review of public and private development projects.

Assist with the development of architectural and design guidelines as related to land use.

Answer questions and assist applicants with the submittal of Certificate of Appropriateness applications to the Historical Review Board for new construction, additions, alterations, exterior maintenance and repair, signs, and demolitions for properties located in historic and cultural districts.

Perform research and proposal review for Historical Review Board agenda items to provide the required information for a complete review; evaluate proposals for consistency with design standards and review guidelines and make recommendations to staff based on research and evaluation.

Conduct field evaluations and assessments.

Interpret the zoning ordinance and the City Council requirements as they relate to site plans, subdivisions, and Planning Commission agenda items.

Assist with implementation of the City’s Historic Preservation Plan.

Manage projects related to architectural survey and state/national register nominations.

Manage local register program.

Apply for and manage grants.

Initiate procurement of professional services.
-
Attend Historic Preservation Commission meetings.
