Recreation Instructor

Salary Range: $15.00 - 24.00/hour; 10–19 hrs. per week

NATURE OF POSITION
Plan, program, play, and facilitate programs for youth in a camp style setting. Oversee the day-to-day operation
of programs. Act as a mentor to youth and other employees. This position is performed outdoors in all types of
weather and indoors. This position may require weekend and evening shifts. Educate and help enforce public
safety rules. Provide extensive customer service to participants and their guardians.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Have a background completed; Possess a valid driver’s license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual in Spanish; CPR and 1st Aid Certified.

General direction and oversight are provided by the Recreation Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

4. Assist in the coordination and execution of City sponsored community events; plan, promote, and
facilitate all aspects of events.

6. Assist in recreational office tasks; answer phones, make copies, take program registrations, and help
provide support where needed.
7. Act as an ambassador to urban parks and downtown area. Establish and maintain a positive working
relationship with a range of partners, area businesses, residents, and visitors.
8. Interact and develop rapport with visitors. Listen to questions, suggestions, and concerns, as to share
that information with appropriate staff.
9. Recognize and respond to safety and security issues. Notify police and/or emergency services as
dictated by the situation.
10. Clean and sanitize tables and chairs, pick up litter, move tables and chairs as required; inspect and
observe amenities in outdoor park and downtown locations and notify appropriate personnel of safety
hazards and repair needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sitting and standing for extended periods of time; seeing, hearing, and speaking to exchange information;
intermittently stand, walk, kneel, stoop, bend at the waist and lift heavy objects; dexterity of hands and fingers
to operate equipment; carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment; perform heavy physical labor at times.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Outdoor environment: subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work; subject to seasonal weather and adverse
weather conditions; dust, dirt, chemical fumes, and pollen. Also, indoor environment: climate controlled.
