POSITION SUMMARY
The Street Foreman assists in the supervision of personnel in the Street Department. The Foreman assists in the planning and execution of the department’s activities which includes all street and alley maintenance and construction, maintenance of all City cemeteries, storm sewer maintenance, emplacement and maintenance of city street signs and regulatory devices, and the marking and painting of city streets and curbs. This Foreman position requires strong supervisory, communication and public relation skills.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Minimum three (3) years of similar experience and/or education required. The employee is expected to have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job satisfactorily in accordance with the adopted personnel policies of the City.
Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. Employees must be able to obtain a valid Commercial Drivers License within one (1) year of employment and maintain license.
Technical Skills: A thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, including backhoe, loader and road grader is required. A thorough knowledge of street maintenance procedures, including proper techniques for using concrete and asphalt is required. Must have working knowledge of basic mathematics. Employees should possess strong organizational, supervisory, communication and human relation skills.
Working Environment: The Foreman works primarily 80% of the time outdoors year-round in all climate conditions; exposure to various types of weather including adverse conditions may be expected. Exposed to excessive noise, confined spaces, flammable materials, paints and chemicals with extreme temperatures, burning smoke, and works with and around heavy construction equipment and streets with heavy traffic.
Physical Demands: Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to safely operate heavy machinery and a wide variety of tools and equipment required. Employee performs manual labor including digging, standing, bending, climbing, walking, lifting and carrying heavy loads daily. Employees must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Work Hours: Primary working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am-3:00pm. Hours may vary depending upon department/City needs and adjustments are made to the schedule to accommodate these demands when necessary. The employee may be asked to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holiday hours and subject to emergency call outs on short notice may occur.
