What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Attorney position at CITY OF WATERBURY?
Seeking a full-time Staff Attorney for a busy municipal legal office. The ideal candidate will be a confident, highly motivated attorney with experience in litigation and excellent drafting skills. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Jury trial experience is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities:
· Prepares pleadings, briefs, motions, and other documents for trial preparation and trial.
· Appears before courts and state administrative agencies.
· Prepares for, conducts, and defends depositions.
· Defends the City in litigated matters.
· Conducts legal research.
· Performs other duties as required.
Skills/Abilities:
· Knowledge of legal principles, including civil law, court rules and rules of evidence.
· Strong organizational skills.
· Familiarity with Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software in an office setting.
· Ability to conduct research on legal problems and prepare sound legal opinions.
· Ability to prepare cases for trial and effectively present cases in court.
· Ability to manage high volume/case load and meet tight deadlines.
Education/Training
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Required: Admitted to practice in the Courts of the State of Connecticut.
- If not already admitted to the United States District Court of Connecticut, is eligible for such admission.
- Experience: 1-2 years’ litigation experience, in which at least one year is in Connecticut courts. Trial experience required.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
