Starting Annual Salary: $41,694.52DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs various semi-skilled maintenance and unskilled labor work related to City of Waxahachie city parks/cemetery/sports complex or other related areas. Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Performs other duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is the journey-level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the lower class by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. This position has regular responsibility for giving direction and guidance to employees as a lead worker, project manager, or internal advisor. As an ongoing part of the position, the employee can expect to supervise approximately 1-3 employees

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. Lead, plan, train, perform, review, and correct the work of staff responsible for providing park maintenance services.Supervise the use of and operate a variety of tools and equipment including power tools, lawnmowers, trucks, and tractors; perform general maintenance duties including refueling, lubricating parts, and making minor adjustments as necessary.Participate in park maintenance site inspection to assure work is completed satisfactorily and thoroughly.Take direction from and make reports to Parks Supervisor and Senior Maintenance Workers. Provide functional supervision as lead worker in absence of Senior Maintenance Worker.Participate in the repair and maintenance of city parks, cemetery, and sports complex including operating various equipment in the completion of assigned tasks.Perform various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of city parks including mowing, trimming, and edging, plant trees and other plants, repair irrigation systems, pick up trash, and clean bathrooms. Maintains ball fields by mowing, tilling, leveling, and striping.Operate various light equipment including mowers, tiller, pickup truck, chainsaw, and other equipment as needed.Maintain and make minor repairs to assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment; report major repair needs. Show cemetery plots to potential customers, locate, and mark graves.Assist other departments during special events with set-up, cleaning, and traffic control.Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner, provide information within the area of assignment, and resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.Performs other related duties as assigned. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledge of: Operations, services, and activities of a maintenance program.Methods and techniques of maintenance equipment operation.Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.Basic principles and procedures of record keeping.Operations, services, and activities of the city.English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.Operational characteristics of various maintenance equipment and tools.Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.Functions and facilities of the Parks and Recreation Department. Ability to: Operate a variety of maintenance equipment safely and effectively leading to the outcomes established by the department.Perform heavy manual labor in inclement and demanding weather conditions.Interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, laws, and regulations.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Recognize conditions within the parks and facilities that do not meet the standards established by the Department.Work periodically outside the typical 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday schedule and in excess of 40 hours per week.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk and hear. Manual dexterity to use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and perform repetitive movements of hands or wrists, and operate a motor vehicle. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds unaided. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Mental Demands While performing the duties of this class, an employee uses written and oral communication skills; reads and interprets data, information, and documents; analyzes and solves problems; uses math and mathematical reasoning; performs highly detailed work; deals with multiple concurrent tasks; and interacts with others encountered in the course of work, including frequent contact with customers and/or the public and dissatisfied/abusive individuals. Work Environment: Field environment, exposure to inclement weather conditions; heat, cold, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, and gases; work on, with, and near potentially hazardous equipment.
