What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Support Analyst position at City of Westminster?
The City of Westminster is seeking a GIS Support Analyst to assist in the creation, maintenance, and analysis of geographic information system (GIS) datasets, maps, and related files.
This role provides essential technical assistance and support to GIS users, including troubleshooting software issues, guiding data management procedures, and generating various map products.
An employee in this position will perform tasks related to data-driven decision-making by transforming raw geographic data into actionable insights and supporting the overall GIS infrastructure of the organization, including but not limited to:
- Conducts research to locate and obtain existing databases.
- Gathers, analyzes, and integrates spatial data and determines how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
- Compiles geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
- Analyzes spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
- Enters new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Natural Resources, Computer Science, or a related field;
- Five (5) years of related experience; or
- Equivalent combination of education, training and related experience.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license;
- GISP (Certified GIS Professional) preferred.
Compensation and Schedule:
- $27.33 - $43.86 per hour, depending on experience
- Non-Exempt; 40 Hours per week
