Public Works Maintenance Worker - Full Time
GENERAL PURPOSE: Under direct supervision, performs a variety of street maintenance functions and operates light equipment used in the repair and maintenance of City of Willcox Streets. Uses mowers and tools required for the maintenance of City parks and facilities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
· Participates in the repair and maintenance of City streets, roads, alleys, drainage, and right of ways.
· Performs minor street repairs including patching roads.
· Maintains regulatory street markings and stripping including crosswalks and parking zones.
· Assists with preparing streets for plasti-seal and chip seal projects.
· Mows and weeds alleys, drainage, and right of ways.
· Performs street sign maintenance and repair.
· Repairs and maintains assigned City parks, buildings, grounds, golf course maintenance, and cemetery grounds.
· Empties trash cans and consolidates trash for pickup.
· Mows and weeds City parks, includes preparing ball fields and rodeo grounds for use.
· Maintains compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
· Performs other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one (1) year light equipment operator experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certifications/Licenses Required: Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License. Must obtain/maintain a Class-B CDL within 12 months of hire.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of procedures and standards for maintaining and repairing public streets and parks.
· Knowledge of maintenance equipment, machinery, tools, and materials.
· Knowledge of procedures and safety guidelines for operating maintenance equipment.
· Knowledge of methods for maintaining maintenance equipment and tools.
· Knowledge of regulations governing the maintenance of public streets and roadways.
· Skill in performing a variety of street and park maintenance and repair functions.
· Skill in safely operating maintenance equipment and machinery.
· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff, City departments, and members of the public.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
· Work is performed in and around City streets, alleys, drainage, and right of ways.
· Standing, walking, bending, and operating light equipment is involved.
· Manuel labor will include but not limited to, shoveling, picks, breaker bars and jack hammers for more than 4 to 6 hours per day.
· Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds
· Exposure to variable/extreme weather conditions, moving vehicle traffic, heavy machinery, underground utilities when digging, and hazardous fumes.
· Work may involve interacting with, working with, or supervising State of Arizona Department of Corrections inmates.
