TRANSIT CREW LEADER
Under direction, the Crew Leader oversees and supervises the operations of the City of Wilmington's transit department, ensuring safe and efficient vehicle service over specified routes or to designated destinations according to time schedules. The Crew Leader also develops the work plan for assigned transit services and activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Assigns work activities and projects; reviews operator inspection reports; oversees, coordinates, and approves maintenance and repair activities for transit equipment and vehicles.
- Reviews daily log sheets, reports of service delays, or accidents and takes appropriate action; responds to and investigates complaints from the general public regarding transit services; resolves problems in a timely and efficient manner; reviews and approves daily cash receipts and ticket fares, and ensures proper disposition of funds.
- Assists with ODOT funding and reporting.
- Manages, supervises, and coordinates the daily activities of assigned staff; assigns work schedules; verifies the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Reviews and approves or recommends denial of timesheets, requests for paid time-off and other leaves of absence; counsels and coaches employees to improve performance and conduct; handles and/or investigates employee complaints.
- Interprets, educates, and explains transit policies and procedures to businesses, community-based organizations, various activity groups, and the general public; conducts a variety of organizational studies; prepares clear and concise reports on findings.
- Responds to the activation of the City’s Emergency Management Plan by assisting in coordinating the transportation of emergency personnel, resources, equipment, and supplies; assists in coordinating the City’s Disaster Route Priority Plan as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in transportation management, transit, logistics, or related field and three (3) years of experience in transit, transportation, logistics, or related field, which includes at least one (1) year of experience in supervising employees; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and must remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance plan.
The starting base salary will be consistent with the City's approved pay plan and collective bargaining agreement; the starting hourly rate for this position is $22.10. This position has defined pay increases annually thereafter according to the City's pay plan.
