Summary
Responsibilities of the position include skilled and semi-skilled labor in municipal Street, Signs and Signals, and Storm Water operation and maintenance. Typical activities require routine use of light and heavy equipment as well as manual labor, use of tracking and reporting software and programs, serving on committees/task forces and assisting other City departments as needed.
Will follow the Streets Division mission statement “Conduct operations as a professional team respecting the values, pride, and safety of our community”.
Hiring range $30.57 - $34.13 per hour
Full range - $30.57 - $38.13 per hour
Essential Duties
Has a continuous awareness of the division mission critical/high impact deliverables and goals and always performs maintenance functions within the scope of the goals. Has and utilizes the ability to make maintenance decisions within the parameters of the mission critical/high impact goals.
Submit accurate and timely records of hours for labor, equipment and materials.
Compile accurate computer reports from data collected in the field.
Keep Street Manger or designee informed of matters of relevance in the areas of accountability.
Continuously display, by words and actions, a commitment to safe working conditions and procedures in regards to City Safety Manual and published material safety data information.
Continuously display the willingness to work non-typical hours or shifts to address required maintenance activities.
Continuously display a high level of commitment to the Engineering and Public Works Department, the Street Division, and Parks and Forestry Division Teams. Act as a contributing member of the Teams. Actively seek and provide input regarding all aspects of the Teams operations with other Team members.
Continuously foster a working environment that displays an attitude of professionalism, open and honest communication, honesty, and ethical behavior.
Support, promote and actively foster and create partnerships with all staff and stakeholders to achieve the City, Department, and Division goals and mission critical / high impact deliverables. Read and understand correspondence, memoranda and materials.
Abide by and enforce City policies and ordinances.
Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Outlook on a daily basis (for emails, scheduling calendar and as a contact manager).
Perform manual, semi-skilled and skilled labor associated with but not limited to:
- Bituminous and gravel street maintenance and repair.
- Snow and ice control operations on City infrastructure.
- Signs and barricade installation and repair.
- Pavement message applications.
- Basic traffic signal maintenance.
- Forestry activities.
- Flagging/traffic control including setting up work zones.
- Surface water infrastructure maintenance.
- Operation and repair of storm water lift stations.
- Maintenance and repair to City equipment, buildings, and building mechanical systems.
- May assist other departments in maintenance activities.
- Provide leadership and contribute specialized knowledge to the division in a specific area of street operations. For example: tree maintenance, pavement maintenance, sign and signal maintenance, snow and ice control, storm water system maintenance.
- Other duties as directed by the Street Manager designee.

- Regenerative air and Mechanical street sweeper
- Aerial personnel lift and scissor lift
- Skid-steer loader
- Front end loaders
- Single axel dump trucks used in maintenance projects and snow removal operations
- Hydraulic excavators
- Grader
- Stormwater lift stations

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Possession of a valid state driver’s license at the time of application, have the ability to drive, and have a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of a valid commercial Class A driver’s license including combination, air brakes, and tanker endorsements, or obtain one within 3 months of employment and effectively operate commercial vehicles.
Certified in C.P.R. or obtain a certificate within three months of employment.
Certified in First Aid or obtain a certificate within three months of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
6 months or more experience in equipment operation or labor in a construction environment.
One or more seasons of snow removal experience.
Storm water experience (especially clean, repair and/or rebuild catch basins).
Experience with pavement markings, signs and signals.
Familiarity with the Minnesota Uniform Traffic Control Device Manual.
Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license including combination, air brakes, and tanker endorsements and effectively operate commercial vehicles.
Post High School education with a preference for focus in storm water, public works, or a related field.
