Summary:
This position will operate several vehicles and equipment utilized in the collection and disposal of solid waste; collect solid waste on a specific commercial or residential route; deposit collected refuse and debris at the city landfill, and ensure that collection vehicles are properly equipped and serviced for routes.Primary work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 6:00AM to 2:00PM, or 7:00AM to 3:00PM. As work load demands; may work as early as 5:00AM and as late as 5:00PM, with some overtime, Saturdays, and holidays required.
Responsibilities:
The key duties for the Solid Waste Operator position include operating rear load, automated side load, front load, roll-off, hook-lift, and bulk trucks, as well as any other powered equipment used in the collection, recycling, and disposal of commercial and residential solid waste (trash, recyclable materials, and yard waste). The Solid Waste Operator is also responsible for assisting in routine maintenance of division vehicles, equipment, and facilities. Other key responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness, conducting daily preventive and routine maintenance checks of the assigned vehicles and equipment, and providing leadership on assigned routes.
Qualifications:
Requires the ability to work holiday shifts and Saturday shifts as scheduled and the ability to withstand exposure to extreme and variable weather conditions. This position requires the possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License.
