TITLE: Field Technician
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
REPORTS TO: Field Services Manager
SUMMARY: Civil Solutions (CS) Field Technicians will work with the Field Services Manager to provide testing and monitoring support for ongoing projects. Field Technicians will review project plans and specifications to verify site activity is within compliance. Field Technicians will perform footing inspections and monitor various projects such as retaining wall construction, temporary earth retention systems, slope remediation, deep foundation systems, and other geotechnical repairs. Field Technicians will perform testing activities such as casting concrete cylinders, density testing for fill placement, verifying reinforcing steel placement, proof roll, drilled shafts, etc. Field Technicians may collaborate with the construction department or perform AutoCAD drafting as necessary. CS Field Technicians report to the Field Services Manager and/or Vice President of Engineering.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a field services capacity at a civil engineering or construction firm; OR an A.S. degree in engineering technology preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to travel locally in the Greater Cincinnati and Tristate Area
- Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, team members, and executives
- Ability to learn new and complex software programs
- OSHA certification(s) preferred
- AutoCAD skills a plus
- Industry related certifications a plus (concrete testing, nuclear density gauge, steel, etc.)
RESPONSIBILITIES & ABILITY TO LEARN:
· Provide on-site testing and monitoring for geotechnical engineering and construction projects
· Perform concrete, proof-roll, compaction, drilled shaft, and other testing and monitoring procedures
· Perform field instrumentation for inclinometers, settlement plate monitoring, brick line surveys, surveying, etc.
· Document all testing procedures and results using Microsoft Word standardized forms
· Utilize a digital camera to capture and document site conditions
- Prepare and submit daily reports for any work performed on a job site
- Prepare and submit written proposals for new work
- Work collaboratively with other CS departments and staff to complete SOQs, bid packages, and cost estimates
- Interpret and explain plans and technical details to internal and external contacts
- Prepare and submit time and mileage information according to SOPs to facilitate project invoicing
- Ensure coordination and completion of documents necessary to facilitate timely invoicing and/or vendor payment
- Assist with AutoCAD drafting as necessary
- Practice and enforce safety policies
- Foster relationships with future clients and vendors
- Nurture relationships with existing clients
- Cultivate business opportunities with new clients
- Actively seek and follow up on new leads and upcoming projects
- Perform work in a productive and ethical fashion
