The District Attorney's office is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the position of Law Clerk within their Criminal and Juvenile Divisions. Law Clerks conduct legal research and writing on criminal and/or child welfare issues. Law Clerks also perform other varied duties as assigned by the District Attorney.
THIS EXAMINATION WILL ESTABLISH AN OPEN COMPETITIVE AND PROMOTIONAL LIST TO FILL ONE-YEAR TERM POSITIONS STARTING ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 2022.
This recruitment may be used to fill term (Limited-Permanent) positions. The selected candidates will be hired to fill one-year term positions, and will be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying conditions and exact dates of employment. At the discretion of the District Attorney, the term may be extended up to a maximum of two one-year terms. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.

TRANSCRIPTS AND WRITING SAMPLES: Candidates selected for an interview will be required to submit law school transcripts and a writing sample to the District Attorney's Office prior to the scheduled interview date.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources.

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited law school or university. Full-time experience in performing legal research and/or writing legal opinions or documents is desirable. NOTE: Applications may be submitted during the last year of law school.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation, which may include both a pre-and post-offer background check for positions within the District Attorney's Office, and a test for controlled substances. Background investigations may also be conducted periodically after employment.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent on the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Researches applicable legal and factual issues using computerized techniques and/or law library materials at the direction of an attorney or judge. Interprets and applies laws, court decisions and other legal authorities in the preparation of briefs, pleadings and other legal papers. Drafts memoranda, opinions and other documents related to findings on specific cases or issues. Researches and explains departmental, County and State procedures to attorneys and departmental support staff. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Maintains accurate records and files; prepares a variety of records and reports as assigned. Uses standard office equipment, including a computer in the performance of the work. May drive a personal or County vehicle in the course of the work.
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
