ROLE SUMMARY
The General Laborer is responsible for assisting operations on heavy civil job sites such as highways, roads, and bridges. This is a broad representation of the type of tasks and requirements required of General Laborers at Clarkson Construction Company.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists other skilled trades by loading, unloading, and distributing materials as assigned.
- Daily cleanup and disposal of debris on and around jobsite.
- Responsibilities may include:
- construction gate duty
- flagging responsibilities- holding flags to direct traffic at access points
- spotter responsibilities- watching equipment to ensure no collisions with people or property
- shoveling
- Adheres to OSHA standards and Clarkson Construction Company’s safety standards.
- General laborers utilize a variety of tools and specialized equipment.
- Other manual labor duties as assigned.
- Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
- Ability to follow-up on inquiries in a timely manner.
- Ability to identify common construction materials and equipment.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must have reliable transportation to jobsite.
- Show up ready to work when scheduled.
- Communicates absences and tardiness with supervisor as early as possible.
- Must be able to travel to jobsites within local areas.
- Must be willing and eligible to join a local union.
- Must have a residence local to the KC Metro area or local to the jobsite area.
- Must be able to pass a drug test or DOT screening.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent activity can include: walking, standing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, sitting and climbing.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs or more.
- Must be able to remain alert and see, hear and respond to team members and the surrounding environment in highly safety sensitive working conditions.
- Specific physical requirements may vary by project type/location.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Work is often performed next to live traffic, in outdoor weather conditions, with and around large heavy civil construction machinery.
- Must be willing to work non-traditional hours, including night shifts and overtime, as assigned.
- Specific environmental requirements may vary by project type/location.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training (Preferred).
- 0-2 years commercial construction experience (Preferred).
