Part-Time Registered Dietitian
Job Summary:
Clay County Medical Center is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Registered Dietitian (RD) to join our healthcare team on a part-time basis. The RD will be responsible for consulting with healthcare professionals about the nutritional needs of our patients on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. This role includes developing specialized diets, offering nutritional guidance, and ensuring dietary safety regulations are met in accordance with hospital standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure a current, survey-approved therapeutic diet manual is available to attending Nutrition Services personnel and other healthcare workers as needed.
- Provide nutrition education materials to Nutrition Services staff for patient discharge when the dietitian is unavailable.
- Support Nutrition Services staff with nutrition-related concerns and inquiries.
- Conduct in-services on nutrition-related topics for Nutrition Services staff and other hospital departments as needed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of patient nutrition care programs, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Help ensure compliance with CMS and Kansas regulatory guidelines for Critical Access Hospitals.
- Approve patient menus and review nutritional care for swingbed patients within 72 hours of admission.
- Conduct nutrition assessments for patients, adjusting diets and nutrition-related products as necessary.
- Monitor patients’ food and fluid consumption, lab tests, and weekly weights.
- Complete swingbed evaluation documents and file them in patient records.
- Provide nutrition education and counseling to inpatients and their families through nutrition consult orders.
- Collaborate with other therapeutic teams to ensure optimal nutrition care.
- Document nutrition care and education according to established standards and policies.
- Ensure that all patient care is performed in a manner that prioritizes patient safety and minimizes healthcare errors.
- Assist the dietary manager in ensuring the timely, accurate, and safe distribution of food and nutrition-related products.
- Maintain a respectful and supportive relationship with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Remain available by phone during normal business hours and weekends to address nutrition-related concerns.
- Provide nutrition counseling for scheduled outpatients and maintain up-to-date medical records within 30 days of consultation.
- Perform quality assurance tasks and assist the dietary manager with departmental matters as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in course of study accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
- Successful completion of the national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- State licensure in Kansas with documentation of credentials.
- Active participation in continuing education to maintain registration and licensure.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of nutritional assessment and care plan development for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals, patients, and families.
- Expertise in therapeutic diets, medical nutrition therapy, and food safety standards.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Additional Information:
- This is a part-time position working about 16 hours per week.
- The Registered Dietitian will work flexible hours and be available for on-call support as required.
