Akron General’s Document Management team is looking to add a Health Information Clerk to its team of caregivers. In this role, you will perform various duties including filing, retrieving, transporting and maintaining paper, microfilmed and electronic medical records and documents. By expediting patients’ medical records in a timely manner, you will help with the continuation of care and avoid delays. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 3:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Operate and maintain various office equipment including optical scanners and microfilm reader printers.
Troubleshoot and clean equipment.
Prepare various documents for scanning into the optical imaging system, ensuring that the records are complete and assembled in a prescribed order.
Scan documents into the optical imaging system on various scanners.
Index information into the optical imaging system to identify the patient, date of service and type of report.
Perform quality checks on scanned documents ensuring proper location and chart.
Release, fax and photocopy medical record information accurately, timely and according to policy and federal HIPAA regulations, ensuring the confidentiality of the information stored in the medical record.
Retrieve records and documents to be scanned from various departments and locations.
Prepare, log and chart all transcribed reports for inpatients.
Maintain accurate interim storage of scanned documents within the prescribed destruction cycle.
Provide guidance and training for clinicians and other requestors on the use of ChartMaxx.
Participate in training and in-service programs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Knowledge of personal computer software applications, including Microsoft Office software
Proficiency in keyboarding as validated by the completion and results of an alphanumeric test
Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience in an optical imaging storage system and/or electronic health record system
Customer service and/or data entry experience
