Summary of Position

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing mechanical and electrical preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production, packaging, physical plant and warehouse equipment including heating and refrigeration systems, conveyors, motors, and related components.

  • Location: 1120 W Fullerton Ave, Addison IL
  • Shift: 2nd Shift (2:00pm to 10:00pm)
  • Workweek: Requires 1 weekend day, either Saturday or Sunday.
  • Pay: Trainee $20-25. Experienced $26-$40. Highly Skilled $40
  • Sign-on Bonus: $3,000

Essential Job Functions

  • Utilize computerized maintenance management system, MVP One, to access and disposition preventative maintenance schedule and work orders, and log corrective maintenance actions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks as assigned, identify and correct deficiencies, both to the asset and to the preventive maintenance instruction sets and frequencies.
  • Install new electrical and mechanical equipment as directed. Complete daily inspections, routine adjustments and emergency repairs of building and production equipment and systems.
  • Perform electrical repairs and troubleshoot for the following: PLC controls, AC & DC motor controls, solid state motor controls, advance circuits, and grounding, interpret diagrams and test equipment.
  • Maintain facility utilities including wastewater equipment, compressed air, refrigeration, boilers, and building safety equipment.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with production and maintenance management and personnel to identify and communicate areas of concern, critical information for analysis and actions taken. Provide and receive feedback on work performed for the purposes of continuous improvement.
  • Read schematics, drawings, and manuals to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Maintain organized documentation, inspection records, etc.
  • Maintain accurate spare parts inventory.
  • Maintain good housekeeping at job site and in shop.
  • Support continuous improvement projects and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Comply with food safety requirements and report food safety and quality issues to supervisor.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Be on time as scheduled and highly reliable in attendance.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Desired Technical Skill Requirements

  • Electrical: 110 – 480V, AC & DC control, wiring & ladder diagrams, Inverter programming, trouble shooting.
  • Welding: gas, arc, mig, tig, steel, brass, aluminum, stainless, cast iron, plasma cutting.
  • Heating and refrigeration: freezers, coolers, water chillers, air conditioners, gas fired heating systems, boilers, water heaters and heat exchangers.

Qualifications

  • Possesses 4 years related industrial maintenance experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possesses knowledge of the internet, manufacturing and preventative maintenance software.
  • Able to trouble shoot malfunctions, solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of variables under time constraints and pressure to restore operations.
  • Able to read, interpret and comprehend a variety of complex work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and technical manuals furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Able to do basic math and apply concepts of algebra and geometry as may be required.
  • Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Able to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally through listening, questioning and communicating verbally and in writing.
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment.
  • Uses time efficiently. Plans repairs and installations to be sure parts are available when needed.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, while looking for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Assists with training of co-workers.
  • Observes safety, security and sanitation procedures including safe work practices, OSHA requirements and GMP's.
  • Uses tools, equipment, and materials properly. Reports on any potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Able to work full-time with overtime and adapt to flexible hours from Sunday to Saturday.
  • Able to work well in a team environment and maintain a positive attitude.

Work Environment and Job Physical Demands

These conditions are common to maintenance employees.

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and electrical shock.
  • Exposure to extreme hot conditions on such equipment as operating fryers and extreme cold conditions such as blast spiral freezers.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, lubricants, solvents, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Standing and walking for entire shift on slippery floors.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, stooping and bending.
  • Repetitive forearm, wrist and hand movements and rotation.
  • Working in close proximity to equipment and other employees.
  • Frequently lifting of up to 50 pounds.
