What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lineman Internship position at Cobb EMC?

Overview

Cobb EMC has an exciting opportunity for a Lineman Internship to learn the construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities, as well as material supply, system operation, apparatus, and engineering of an electrical distribution system.

 

Schedule: 4- 10 hour shifts per week, 6:30am-5pm OT as needed

 

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

 

  • Develop a general knowledge of power line construction standards.
  • Work in the warehouse to become familiar with materials.
  • Shadow in Engineering, Power Control, Apparatus, and Operations Skills Training.
  • Assist with power outage restoration if they occur during scheduled work hours.
  • Interact with Cobb EMC members while in the field.
  • Train to perform routine line work: underground and overhead construction, line maintenance, and electrical service.
  • Assist in loading and unloading material.  Properly secure all material when loading.
  • Assist with material check-in and check-out of warehouse.  Retire old line and facilities. 
  • Send tools and materials up pole with approved hand line and other equipment.
  • Properly make up, on the ground, assemblies for Linemen.
  • Set up reels and help string wire.
  • Bore holes, frame and install poles according to specifications.
  • Dig trenches and drive in ground rods.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

Upcoming High School graduates (graduation May 2024)

Must live in Cobb EMC’s service territory (Cobb, Paulding, Bartow, Cherokee, Fulton)

Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures, rules, and regulations.

Ability to comprehend basic safety rules and not be afraid to ask questions.

 

SKILLS:

Possess valid Georgia driver's license and relevant endorsements.

Maintain a positive attitude.

Strong work ethic and willingness to take the initiative and follow instructions.

Ability to receive constructive feedback                                                                                                           

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Pass company-required physical exam. 

Very heavy lifting and sustained physical activity required.

 

Examples:  Work performed involves frequently lifting and pulling cable, digging with a shovel, and using other hand tools; occasionally working from a ladder.                                                                                                                                       

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work outside in various and extreme weather conditions and terrains within our service territory.
