Job Summary
The Family Advocate will have the opportunity to lead family engagement in hopes of preventing youth homelessness. This position is responsible for the case management of 10 families/per month. The Family Advocate is also responsible for conducting outreach activities and leading family classes.
Essential Responsibilities
- Build relationships with community partners, build a caseload, and gather community resources for families in Snohomish County.
- Support in leading weekly housing family meetings with the caregivers, the youth, and the housing staff.
- Facilitate two classes each quarter throughout Snohomish County and support monthly WayOUT seminars at Cocoon House.
- Communicate directly with other providers to coordinate care and conduct wrap-around meetings.
- Provide low-barrier support for families through phone calls and drop-in services.
- Provide outreach to families across Snohomish County to promote Cocoon House programs with an emphasis on Prevention.
- Collect needed demographics and other information from attendees and complete all data entry associated with case management, parenting classes and other parent support in a complete and timely manner.
- Support other Cocoon House programs to increase staff knowledge around family engagement and Prevention work as needed.
- Assist the Director of Family Engagement in training Cocoon House staff in best practices in working with families.

- This position can provide a flexible work schedule with some evening hours and at least one weekend each month. There will be regular evening hours as late as 8pm to meet families scheduling needs - not to exceed 40 hours a work week.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with parents and families of teens.
- Strong and effective communication skills; proficiency in crisis intervention/de-escalation.
- Knowledge of street culture, adolescent development, and strengths-based approaches preferred.
- Individuals with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Two years of experience working in human services with at least one year of experience with parents of teens and one year with youth and young adults and facilitation experience preferred.
Conditions of Employment
- Clear a background check with DCYF.
- Possess a valid Washington State driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 50 pounds. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; running for brief periods of time; and go up and down stairs.
