Description

The Program Physician is responsible for approving admissions for non-methadone treatment (e.g. suboxone, vivitrol, or alcohol treatment services) and collaborating with medical and management team to improve program procedures and outcomes.

In this position, a successful candidate will fulfil the following functions:

  • Provide direct patient care, approve all admissions, and manage ongoing treatment for opioid-dependent or alcohol-dependent patients.
  • Participate directly or indirectly in the medical assessment of new and existing patients.
  • Coordinate care with patients’ primary care and other care providers, ensuring treatment continuity and safe prescribing practice.
  • Work closely with medical staff to ensure safe dispensing of medication, adherence to physician order sets, and accuracy of patient assessment.
  • Provide clinical supervision to medical staff who are involved in patients’ care.
  • Collaborate with Medical and Program Directors on conducting performance evaluations of medical staff
  • Attend multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to ensure appropriate treatment of patients and other meetings as needed.
  • Provide on call medical coverage for patients, including fielding questions about medication administration or interactions and authorizing order changes Supervise and teach residents and fellows on rotation.
  • Collaborate with Medical and Program Directors on development of program policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Medical and Program Directors to ensure safe clinical procedures and policies

Requirements

In this position, the following are essential requirements:

  • Experience providing care to high risk, high need patients, including those diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. 
  • Experience in the use of medication assisted treatment for patients with addictive disorders including suboxone induction and management and Extended release naltrexone (Vivitrol) induction and management.
  • Board Certified or board-eligible Family Physician or General Internist OR anesthesia and psychiatry board certification with similar background or experience.
  • Experience working within a medical home model.
  • Able to work well with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Current or able to obtain DATA wavier within one month of hire.

    All CODA facilities are drug-free and smoke-free worksites. Employees may not be serving any supervised parole or probation. Individuals in recovery must have a minimum of two years in recovery post-treatment to be considered for employment.
