What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Assistant Professor in Nursing position at Coker University?

The Coker University Nursing Program is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in Nursing beginning July 2023. This position is a 12-month clinical teaching position with a competitive salary and benefits. This position reports to the Dean of Nursing.

Purpose:

This position is a non-tenure track. The Nursing faculty member will teach in pre-licensure nursing programs in areas of expertise, provide service to the University, community, and profession, and contribute to the mission and strategic priorities of the institution.

Required qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree or higher in nursing. Successful teaching and leadership experience in a nursing education program or clinical educator role in a healthcare setting.
  • Licensed (or eligible) to practice nursing in South Carolina
  • Psychiatric/mental health background preferred

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in the ongoing development, implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of nursing academic programs:
    1. Participate in program and course development and ongoing improvement.
    2. Revise assigned courses to reflect program outcomes, AACN essentials, and other professional standards, state board of nursing minimum standards, current evidence and best practice.
    3. Collaborate within assigned courses to ensure standard delivery of education and adherence to faculty expectations among clinical instructors.
    4. Teach undergraduate nursing courses as assigned.
    5. Supervise and advise nursing students as assigned.
    6. Collaborate with clinical agencies in arranging student clinical experiences (e.g. orientation to objectives of clinical experience, course syllabus, clinical schedule, et al) as appropriate.
    7. Work with program directors and clinical coordinators to identify the types of clinical experiences and sites needed for optimal clinical education of students.
    8. Participate in the development of academic policies affecting the admission, progression, graduation and dismissal of students.
    9. Participate in the evaluation and ongoing enhancement of the BSN curriculum.
    10. Apply evidence from best education practices to curriculum development and to teaching.
  1. Serve the BSN program, University, community and profession:
    1. Participate in the Nursing faculty, standing committee, task force and other meetings.
    2. Participate in Faculty Senate and ad hoc committees.
    3. Participating in community and professional activities as appropriate.
    4. Participating in scholarly projects as appropriate.
    5. Collaborate effectively with other faculty and staff members within Nursing and throughout the University and community to develop inter-professional academic, clinical, and research opportunities.
    6. Advance Coker's educational mission and core values through the undergraduate nursing programs and serve as an advocate for learners at all levels.
    7. Engage in clinical scholarship.
