A postdoctoral position is available for scientists interested in deciphering the biology of membrane proteins and ion channel physiology in the Furukawa lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) in New York, USA (https://furukawalab.cshl.edu/). To achieve our research goals, we employ a combined approach that incorporates cryo-EM, crystallography, electrophysiology, imaging, protein engineering, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. We also have numerous exciting collaborative projects in cancer-neuroimmunology. CSHL features state-of-the-art equipment, including a Titan-KRIOS 300 kV electron microscope with a K3-GIF detector, crystallography tools, and excellent facilities for phage and yeast display, proteomics, and light microscopy. CSHL has historically offered a unique scientific environment for interacting with scientists within the institute and from outside, through prestigious CSHL courses and meetings (including courses on X-ray Methods in Structural Biology, Cryo-EM, and Ion Channels). The Furukawa lab has a solid track record of preparing postdoctoral researchers for assistant professorships in academia and equivalent roles in industry. A qualified candidate should hold or soon expect to have (within ~0.5 yr) a Ph.D. in the area of structural biology (crystallography, cryo-EM, cryo-ET), molecular neuroscience/electrophysiology (e.g., patch-clamp electrophysiology, imaging, etc.), membrane protein biochemistry and biophysics, or immunology. Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site position for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Structural Neuropharmacology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, located in Cold Spring Harbor, NY. The selected candidate will conduct advanced research in the field of structural neuropharmacology and work closely with a multidisciplinary team of leading scientists. Responsibilities include designing and performing laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and developing innovative strategies to further understand the interactions of pharmacological agents with neural structures. Opportunities for teaching and mentoring students may also be available.
Qualifications
- Strong Laboratory Skills with a focus on experimental design and execution in structural biology (e.g., cryo-EM) and complementary techniques such as electrophysiology, FRET, etc.
- Solid foundation in membrane protein biochemistry, particularly in its application to neuropharmacology and structural studies
- Proven expertise in Research and Data Analysis, with the ability to interpret, summarize, and present findings effectively
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
- PhD in Structural Biology, Neuroscience, Biophysics, or a related field
- Familiarity with computational tools and advanced microscopy techniques is a plus
