What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Specialist position at Colonial Behavioral Health?
Colonial Behavioral Health provides opportunities for recovery to individuals and their family members in the areas of mental illness, substance use disorder, and developmental disabilities. Colonial Behavioral Health serves the citizens of James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, and York County.
We are currently recruiting for an Outreach Specialist position within our Prevention program. This position is responsible for providing outreach in the community to increase awareness of substance use treatment and recovery available in the Greater Williamsburg area
- Provides prevention services to the community through education and group interactions, as well as information and awareness programs for targeted communities, “at-risk” groups, and others potentially affected by substance use and other addictive disorders.
- Works with the agency’s Health Promotions and Development and Communications’ team to create and distributes outreach materials and social media content.
- Collaborates with interagency community-based prevention planning efforts.
- Promotes the coalition, prevention, treatment and recovery services through representation at health fairs and public events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Monday-Friday, this is a Part-Time position.
Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of advocacy and educational principles and techniques as they pertain to the treatment and recovery of mental illness and substance use.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Ability to represent the agency and community partners’ issues and concerns at community forums, committees, and task forces.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others including professionals and the general public.
- Bachelor's Degree in education or related field required.
- At least one year of experience in human services, prevention or outreach. required
- Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving required.
