The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist I is an advocate of Colonials’ Safety Culture, working under the leadership of the Environmental Manager. This position requires a combination of office and fieldwork.
The candidate must be able to work independently on projects of moderate to high complexity with minimal supervision. This position is to be held with self-motivation, enthusiasm, and conviction while fostering a supportive relationship with operating departments.
JOB EXPECTATIONS/DUTIES
Research and interpretation of regulations and design of compliance methods:
OSHA General Industry standards
Clean Air standards
RCRA standards
GA HSRA standards
UST standards
Stormwater management standards
SPCC Standards
OPA 90 Standards
Independent management of multiple environmental programs:
Managing compliance dates
Liaising with federal and state regulators
Managing project expenses
Management of consultants
Overseeing fieldwork, and collecting field data
Preparing reports and presentations for upper management
Management of other Safety and Risk Management Plans.
Prevention and management of environmental releases and other emergency responses.
Other duties and projects may be assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
BS degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, or related field is preferred.
Experience working in the US Southeast (EPA Region IV), GA, SC, and NC is preferred.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
Experience in management of environmental compliance programs, and sufficient exposure to management of safety programs.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must be technology-driven and proficient in the use of software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
Must meet the criteria for obtaining a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, climb ladders, stairs, and walk at a fast pace. The employee must be able to wear PPE up to Level B, and may occasionally lift or move up to 40 lbs.
Overnight traveling may be required occasionally up to 25% annually, within the US southeast region.
