What You Will Do

The controller position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company. This includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls. The controller is also responsible for enhancing the accuracy of the company's reported financial results and ensuring that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

How You Will Make A Difference

Management

  • Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including input on the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the accounting operations of additional business units, including control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
  • Supervises accounting staff, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll.

Transactions

  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.
  • Process payroll.
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
  • Reporting

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements.
  • Provide input on performance benchmarks and other business analysis tools.
  • Assist in the production of the annual budget and weekly forecasts.
  • Understand and report variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
  • Provide a system of management cost reports.
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital purchase, business partnership decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Compliance

  • Coordinate external annual audits.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

    Physical Activity of This Position

  • Typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

  • Physical Requirements of This Position

  • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary; walking and standing are required only occasionally.
  • Visual Acuity Requirements Including Color, Depth Perception, and Field Vision

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as : preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and / or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and / or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • Conditions the worker will be subject to in this position

  • None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10 years of progressively responsible experience either in a company or with an audit / accounting firm.
  • Preference that the candidate has a Certified Public Accountant designation.
  • Experience with RentalMan or Wynne Systems a plus.

  • This position may require up to 15% travel.
  • Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License and clean MVR
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license during entire employment
  • Pass pre-employment, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
  • Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check
