JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
The Kids Ministry Assistant Director is a part of the Kids Ministry Department within the Family Life Zone. The Assistant Director closely partners with the Kids Ministry Pastor to creatively weave their passion for Jesus and their heart for kids into a special expression to bring about life changing relationships. This position serves the congregation by working with the Kids Ministry Pastor to continually dream, develop and grow all ministries for kids 1st – 5th grade. This person is a compelling communicator and leader, faithfully working with volunteers to creatively bring the Bible to life with dynamic storytelling, together with a blend of the gifts of drama, worship and other artistic expressions, while providing a safe and nurturing environment for elementary aged kids. This position reports to the Kids Ministry Pastor. This is a 40 hour a week, non-exempt (hourly) position with benefits.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Weekend Services:
- Oversee the production of the Elementary weekend worship “opener.” Build a volunteer team of creatives to help lead this experience.
- Edit and prepare curriculum and supply lists for weekly lessons.
- Schedule teachers for the 1st – 5th grade classes.
- Assist the KM Pastor in recruiting, developing, and energizing teachers, storytellers, musicians, etc. composed of adults, youth and 4th or 5th grade kids.
- Supervise the Kids Ministry Weekend Assistant staff.
- Wednesday Nights:
- Develop and implement a “Bible Skills Time” that creatively engages elementary kids for going deeper into understanding God’s Word during our Wednesday evening programming.
- Special Events:
- Collaborate with the Kids Ministry team on vision and implementation of all ministry activities and events (Vacation Bible School, Family Advent Night, Camps and other special events).
- Plan and execute regular events for kids in 4th-5th grade (Examples: Art for the Nations, Lava Island, Snow Tubing, Pirate’s Cove).
- Organize and provide oversight of an annual 5th grade camp.
- Collaboration:
- Work with all CCC ministries, focusing on developing strategies to help families transition from Kids to Youth Ministry.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Attend all staff meetings (Weekly KM Staff, Monthly CCC Staff Luncheons, Annual Retreat, Staff Devos and Prayer etc.)
- Provide general shepherding care to the kids and families associated with our Kids Ministry.
- Work Schedule:
- Weekends: Must be available to work at least 44 full calendar weekends per year for worship service coverage as well as special services as scheduled (Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, Easter, etc.).
- Wednesdays: Must be available to consistently work Wednesday evenings throughout the school year and during summer programming.
- Office Hours: Establish and maintain regular weekday office hours considering KM programming and other staffing needs to ensure consistent KM presence in the office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Character:
- A Christ honoring life marked by personal holiness, prayer, bible study, spiritual and emotional maturity and increasing dependence on the Holy Spirit (Titus 1:6-9, 1 Timothy 3:1-7).
- A person with a love for kids and a passion for reaching kids for Jesus.
- Unquestionable integrity specifically in areas of handling finances, relationships and time management.
- A person who understands and models the Christian principle of servant-leadership. Someone who is eager, flexible and has a teachable spirit.
- Competency:

- Bible college degree with at least 3 years of full-time ministry experience preferred but not required.
- Broad knowledge of childhood development and needs.
- Creative skills and ability to clearly communicate biblical truths to children in a manner that is fresh, engaging and relevant.
- Proven experience in team building, envisioning and training volunteers for ministry with a missional attitude and focus.
- Effectively communicates with and relates to people of all ages.
- Takes personal initiative in learning.
- Able to effectively multitask projects and tasks.
- Willingness to work within a flexible schedule.
- Able to learn and effectively use the church database system.
- Solid computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite & Google Suite programs.
- Comfortable in interdenominational and multicultural settings.
