What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Physical Science Tech I, Co Springs position at Colorado Department of Transportation?
This position is only open to Colorado state residents.
New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year
This position will support CDOT's Engineers in construction inspection and testing located in Colorado Springs. This position will ensure that materials incorporated into projects are in compliance with the contract of plans and specifications. This position will also conduct inspections of construction projects to ensure that contractor’s work is in conformance with construction plans and specifications.
Major Duties and responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to:
- Certifies that contractor’s work is in conformance with construction plans and specifications on assigned/less complex projects;
- Inspects contractors’ work procedures by being on site and being familiar with plans and specifications;
- Checks inspection reports for description contractor’s work, calculations, and accuracy. Completes the inspection classes, Traffic control, erosion control, and other technical classes required for the construction inspection;
- Assists Project Engineer on project documentations, includes but not limited to write 266’s, daily diaries, use of SiteManager, and quantity calculations;
- Certifies that materials incorporated during construction on less complex projects are in conformance with the contract by conducting and reviewing field and laboratory tests;
- Documents quantity and quality of the contractor’s materials by filling out various Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) forms;
- Executes physical tests, as per the Materials Manuals. Including testing the physical properties of concrete (slump, air content and compressive strength), soils and aggregate properties, compaction testing of embankments and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), laboratory testing of HMA including gradations. RICE and AC content;
- Attends assigned training classes and participates in seminars to enhance job knowledge;
- Completes the inspector certification program, traffic control, erosion control and other technical classes required for construction inspection;
- Other job duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
- Travel required during work hours throughout Colorado Springs and occasionally around the state.
- Required to operate CDOT Vehicles
- Night work for projects will be required on occasion.
- May lift 50 lbs.
- Requires a current Colorado driver’s license.
