Civil Engineer

Columbia Engineering Group (Veteran owned)
Vancouver, WA Part Time
POSTED ON 1/28/2026 CLOSED ON 2/27/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Engineer position at Columbia Engineering Group (Veteran owned)?

Help Build the Future of Civil Engineering Delivery
We are looking for an ambitious Senior Civil Engineer who wants more than just production work; someone who enjoys ownership, leadership, and optimizing how projects get delivered. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on delivering projects ahead of schedule, under budget, and with exceptional client satisfaction and who want the freedom and support structure to make that possible.

Why This Opportunity Is Different
Our delivery model is changing how civil projects are executed. Instead of being overloaded doing drafting, reports, and administrative tasks yourself, you’ll work with a dedicated remote production team (drafters, designers, report writers, and support staff) trained and overseen by a U.S. Professional Engineer. Your job is to lead projects, manage budgets, coordinate with clients, maintain quality, and keep the schedule moving; not grind through redlines at 2am.
We will scale production resources as needed at a low operational cost; giving you the leverage to consistently beat deadlines and budgets. Because of that, bonuses are tied directly to project performance, efficiency, and client feedback, not just billable hours.

This role is ideal for engineers who want to:
  • Work remotely with flexible hours
  • Manage high-impact civil projects (commercial, mixed-use, multifamily, industrial, and public)
  • Lead and develop remote teams
  • Shape internal operations, workflows, and systems in a rapidly growing company
  • Work directly with a U.S. PE for mentorship, coordination, and quality oversight
  • Be part of a new frontier of U.S.-Philippines civil engineering collaboration
  • Get paid for efficiency, leadership, and delivery — not time spent clicking
Minimal travel (5–10%) may be required for site visits in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Idaho).

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage civil engineering projects from kickoff to final permits, controlling scope, budget, quality, and schedule
  • Coordinate directly with clients, architects, contractors, municipalities, and stakeholders
  • Lead, mentor, and oversee a remote production team (designers, drafters, and support staff)
  • Review and mark-up plans, reports, and technical documents prepared by the production team
  • Prepare and track land use permits and engineering approvals for commercial and multifamily development
  • Develop civil design solutions covering: grading and earthwork, drainage and conveyance, stormwater management systems (detention, infiltration, bio facilities, etc.), sanitary sewer and utility design.
  • Coordinate with geotechnical engineers, surveyors, and regulatory agencies
  • Maintain compliance with local codes, stormwater manuals, and development regulations
  • Conduct limited site visits and provide technical support during construction
  • Help shape internal standards, processes, templates, and operational improvements as we scale

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (preferred)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or path to licensure (preferred)
  • Proven experience delivering land development/site development projects
  • Working knowledge of grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and permitting processes
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design platforms
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Strong organizational ability with comfort managing multiple concurrent projects
  • A mindset focused on efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement

Compensation Structure
  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance-based bonuses tied to hitting project budgets, meeting or beating deliverable milestone, client satisfaction and repeat work.
  • Opportunities for rapid advancement as the operation scales
Who Will Excel in This Role

This role will appeal most to someone who:
  • Operates like a mini-PM/Principal and enjoys driving the whole project
  • Wants leverage and support instead of doing all tasks personally
  • Enjoys building systems and improving operations
  • Values autonomy, flexibility, and high ownership
  • Wants to participate in something transformational, not bureaucratic
