The Medical Billing Assistant supports the Billing Department Manager with your primary focus on providing excellent customer service to patient inquiries about billing. This position must support clinic philosophy and goals and adhere to clinic policies and procedures.
Essential Duties
1. Customer service incoming calls and face-to-face consultation with patients
2. Set-up payment plans, maintain and monitor accounts
3. Contact patients with past-due balances
Job Duties
1. Customer service incoming calls and face to face consultation with patients.

4. Assist with production and mailing of patient billing statements.
5. Processing of mail/correspondence.
6. Posting of patient and insurance payments including electronic remittance advice.
7. Assist with day close and daily money reconciliation.
8. Verification of insurance coverage and benefits.
9. Verify patient demographics
10. Prepare waivers for any procedures or exams as needed
11. Identify collection issues and work toward resolution
12. Review collection write-offs with management and refer to collection agency
13. Serve as primary contact for collection agencies and EDI service providers.
14. Provide back-up for reception desk and/or quality team including greeting patients, answering telephone inquiries, and making appointments.
15. Maintain and positive and friendly attitude and provide excellent customer service
16. Demonstrate knowledge of payer/plan structures, payer contracts, and payer laws
17. Demonstrate knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and medical terminology
18. Ability to multitask, learn new skills, and adapt to change
19. Ability to withstand varying job pressures, organize/prioritize related job tasks, and excellent attention to detail
20. Proficiency in medical software, Microsoft Office Suite, keyboard, and telephone systems
21. Other job duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
High school diploma and/or one or more years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with electronic health records is required and experience using Epic is strongly preferred.
Language Skills
Fluency in English is required and fluency in Spanish language is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.40 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
