What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Representative position at Columbus Cardiology Associates, P.C.?

Job Summary:

Greets and checks-in patients upon their arrival to the practice for appointments. Ensures all demographic information on the patient is accurate and updated in the patient’s chart. Ensures all insurance and billing information is copied and placed in the patient’s chart. Knowledge of PM/EMR system Athena preferred.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Check-in patients as they arrive and update patient demographics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel.
  • Proficient in physician based computer systems.
  • Aware of and adheres to all Practice policies and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Collect co-pay and outstanding balances from patient.
  • File all documentation in the correct location in the patient chart.
  • Answer phones, route calls and take accurate and complete messages.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Fax necessary and requested materials on patients to the hospitals and other physician offices.
  • Knowledge of insurance, understanding primary, secondary and co-pays.
  • Check waiting room for patient wait times.
  • Knowledge or PM/EMR system Athena and work required Athena task buckets daily.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education High School graduate or equivalent required.

Experience Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a physician’s office

Licensure/Certification None required.

Skills Above average communication skills and ability to relate effectively to

the public and health care professionals.

Light to moderate physical effort.

Moderate mental concentration and stress.

Subject to exposure to infectious conditions and minor hazards such as muscle sprains, cuts and bruises.
