REQUIREMENTS:
A. Certification or Licensure: Valid state license to practice as a registered nurse. Nebraska Department of Education Certification as public-school nurse,
B. Experience Desired: Two years experience in public health nursing, preferably in a school district.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Student Services
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. A school nurse’s primary responsibilities include on-site health assessment
2. Administration of the state’s immunization program
3. Continual maintenance of cumulative student health records according to statutory requirements
4. A school nurse will work with children of various ages with varied medical issues
5. Takes appropriate measures in case of injury, communicable disease symptoms, signs of abuse or other condition which affect the welfare of an individual or group of students
6. Provides meaningful communication and educates in areas pertaining to student health
7. This individual must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in a multicultural urban setting
8. Demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills and awareness of community services including homes visits student when necessary.
9. Participates with school staff and administrators in developing and implementing total school health programs.
10. Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students.
11. Authorizes exclusion and re admission of students regarding infectious and contagious diseases according to Board of Education Policy.
12. Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum.
13. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
14. Serves as health information resource person and presenter for classroom teachers.
15. Participates in district meetings and works as a collaborative team member during professional learning time.
16. Other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,650.00 - $46,767.00 per year
