Position Summary

The Compliance Officer supports an equitable learning and working environment, free from sexual harassment/sexual violence, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in accordance with College Policy and various state and federal laws, and in alignment with furthering the strategic priorities of the College. This role utilizes advanced critical thinking skills, professional writing, and a high level of interpersonal skills to conduct administrative investigations; maintain and compile investigative case data; assist in the development and delivery of training; and pro-actively assist in dispute resolution. This position consults and works with internal and external partners to facilitate student and employee success by addressing complex and sensitive concerns. This position supports the Equity & Compliance (E&C) department’s role in promoting a healthy, equitable, and inclusive learning and working environment for all students, staff, and faculty.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Investigation, Consultation & Problem Resolution

Reviews concerns of and investigates complex and highly sensitive complaints of sexual harassment/sexual violence and other forms of discrimination and harassment. Plans administrative investigative process. Schedules and conducts interviews. Identifies and collects relevant evidence. Provides investigation updates to the department leadership team and other Compliance Officers. Evaluates and analyzes facts and evidence and applies them to applicable policies, procedures and legal standards.

Writes investigatory reports of facts, findings, application to policy, and recommendations for review by department leadership. Prepares and sends appropriate correspondence. Maintains accurate and timely records in designated online database.

Provides College leadership with investigative insights and recommendations based on relevant College policy and state and federal law to aid in divisional, departmental, and programmatic decision-making.

Pro-actively assists students and employees in resolving issues through facilitation, conflict resolution, and guidance consistent with the College’s mission, values, policies, and procedures.

Consults and coordinates with Human Resources, Academic Affairs, the Office of Student Conduct, Disability Services, Counseling Services, the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), the Threat Assessment Team (TAT), the Columbus State Police Department, and other appropriate College officials on Title IX and other discrimination and harassment concerns.

Identifies issues and concerns for referral to the appropriate College partner (Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Administration, etc.) when they fall outside the scope of E&C.

Equity & Compliance Support

Serves as a primary resource for students and employees related to rights and responsibilities under the College’s policies and procedures, related to sexual harassment/sexual violence, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on an individual’s participation in an investigation of discrimination and/or harassment and/or an individuals exercise of rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act and its Amendments (ADA/ADAAA) and/or under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Collaborates with internal and external partners to support E&C goals and initiatives. Assists with the oversight, updating and maintaining of policies, procedures, protocols, and training and education related to Title IX and other forms of discrimination and harassment.

Prepares reports and other data on the number, nature, and disposition of E&C cases. Partners strategically with College stakeholders, including the Officer of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, to ensure best practices are utilized to support a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.

Community Outreach & Engagement

Assists in the development, administration, and delivery of College-wide Title IX training and education for all employees and students. Assists in the development and delivery of customized Title IX, discrimination and harassment training for specific audiences within the College. Assists in the development and delivery of E&C training for new employees.

Participates on committees supporting E&C goals and initiatives.

USUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Vision demands include close, detailed vision when focusing on computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical office working conditions with occasional exposure to security threats.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of: various federal and state discrimination laws, including Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), The Clery Act, Title VII, O.R.C. §4112.02, the ADA/ADAAA, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, the FMLA and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), as well as related policies, regulations and standards; investigation methods, including trauma-informed interview techniques; technical and analytical report writing; currently accepted Human Resources principles and standard office practices.

Skill in: excellent verbal and written communication; critical thinking and analysis; analytical writing; conducting investigations; preparing comprehensive reports and summaries of investigations; effective interpersonal communication; developing and presenting training related to Equity & Compliance initiatives, establishing internal and external partnerships; working with detailed data; operation of general office equipment; proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Ability to: use critical thinking skills to apply investigatory information and evidence to College policy and procedure; work independently demonstrating initiative; strong problem-solving skills, prioritize multiple activities and tasks; develop and maintain effective working relationships with members of the College community and general public; maintain confidential and sensitive information when addressing complaints, investigations and other Equity & Compliance information; adapt to unique situations; maintain accurate and complete work records; effectively work with persons of varying cultures and diversity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and at least three (3) years of experience performing increasingly responsible work in Compliance, Human Resources, Student Affairs or a related field.  An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate. 

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
