Communication

Job Summary

Located in One Arsenal Place on the RiverPark Campus, this position provides administrative support to the Department Chair, faculty, and students of the Department of Communication undergraduate, graduate, and outreach programs - including public private partnerships of WCUG Radio and WRBL News Bureau.

Responsibilities

Significant Duties & Responsibilities include: Serves as a point of contact for students in the Department of Communication for general inquiries and assistance. Provides updates and important information to students in a timely manner.; Supports internship and service learning for the Department of Communication and the NPACE Center. Tracks internship placements for the required number of hours.; Supports the advising and registration process; submits SDE adjustments & priority registration: assists with registration overrides as needed.; Responds to daily inquiries and communication with various CSU departments and the community.; Offers day-to-day operational support for the department.; Maintains files and records for the Department of Communication.; Supports the processing of new hires, payroll, and Supplemental Pay (to include employees, student assistants, and independent contractors); monitors part-time faculty payroll and budgets.; Processes/receives mail, service requests, and supply orders.; Provides clerical support for the Department Chair.; Takes minutes at department and advisory board meetings.; Tracks Georgia Film Academy (GFA) courses completed and advises qualified students when they are eligible to apply for one of the GFA credentials.; Coordinates with GFA and Columbus Film Fund all CSU-GFA student internships and crews for placement on film production sets.; Coordinates with Department of Communication alumni to maintain updated resumes required for placement on local film production sets or other job opportunities.; Assists in supervising front desk and student assistant staff in the Department of Communication.; Tabulates/enters reports used in annual assessment process.; Oversees scholarship applications each Spring. Updates and monitors the scholarship budget with Advancement and Financial Aid.; Acts as a liaison between the administration, advisory boards, students, staff, and faculty.; Assists with the selection and hiring of student assistant staff.; Maintains an ongoing inventory of supplies for the Department of Communication.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications include: Minimum qualifications include an associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in Business Administration, Communication, or a related field and 1 - 3 years' experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, training and education.; Proficient with MS Office products with strong skills in MS Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications include: Familiarization with BOR and CSU policies and procedures preferred.

Proposed Salary

The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $35,868 - $38,852 and includes full benefits.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates are required to submit and successfully pass a background investigation to include reference checks and verification of academic credentials (if applicable). Other additional requirements may be required based upon specific position duties:
  • A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;
  • Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.
  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
