Overview
Camp-in Counselors lead groups and engage participants to create memorable and educational overnight experiences for our guests. These enthusiastic instructors lead engaging and fun activities while hosting their group through the evening and into the next morning. Responsibilities
- Creates a memorable and engaging experience through the instruction of planned lessons and activities for program participants.
- Responsible for overall safety and well-being of groups.
- Maintains knowledge of Zoo animals and concepts relevant to the programming.
- Works with the team to complete room set-up and clean-up for program activities and also performs general cleaning duties.
- Maintains proper check-in and check-out procedures and enforces the rules of the program while providing top-notch customer service.
- Counselor schedule is typically 5:30pm through 10:30am the next morning (counselors sleep at the Zoo while the guests sleep). Programs are scheduled on Friday and Saturday nights from April through mid-December. Counselors are required to work two or more shifts per month.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completed or pursuing a BA/BS in education, natural sciences, or other related field.
- Experience teaching informal classes or in a camp environment preferred.
- Requires overnight stays, evenings and weekends.
- Counselors are expected to work a minimum of two to three camp-in programs per month.
- Experience working with children ages 5 and up.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Able to balance multiple assignments successfully.
- Able to work in varied weather conditions (i.e. extreme heat, rain).
- Able to maintain courteous and helpful behavior and work without direct supervision.
- Maintain appropriate employee appearance and follow uniform guidelines.
