Phlebotomist

• Overview* Established by the Sisters of the St. Francis in 1924 CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney Neb. At CHI Health Good Samaritan you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service. Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery a level II neonatal intensive care unit a nationally accredited cancer center comprehensive neurosurgery advanced orthopedic program and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.
• Responsibilities* Analyzing lab testing is pretty complex. We depend on our lab staff to help determine what is happening with our patients. They are a vital key to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Our phlebotomists work with our patients to provide the samples needed to see results. Do you love working in a lab setting? • Obtain blood specimens by capillary puncture or venipuncture using appropriate technique.
• Correctly identifies patient per written protocol and properly labels specimens accurately and completely while maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed.
• Exercises judgment in determining work priority. Interacts with nursing units to ascertain critical priorities and verify discrepancies.
• Disposes of contaminated lab supplies and handles all lab specimens regarding potential health hazards according to written procedures.
• Receives laboratory specimens orders tests processes specimens using the centrifuge and
• Distributes specimens to appropriate testing areas communicating special instructions.
• Maintains professional attitude with patients visitors hospital staff and fellow employees while assuring the confidentiality of all hospital information. Discusses problems in a professional adult and calm manner.
• Maintains and operates test systems for optimal performance; collaborates with tech or technician to resolve technical issues.
• Qualifications* Education/Licensure: High School Diploma or GED is required. 1 year lab experience preferred
