Summary
A Cafe Assistant Manager is the point person at the coffee shop, responsible for leading and directing the retail operations. The Cafe Assistant Manager is ultimately responsible for every quality customer interaction, maintaining coffee quality, providing an exceptional customer experience, and handling and routing the day-to-day challenges that face the coffee shop environment. They serve as the standard of Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters.

Essential Functions
- Store Management
- Leads and directs Baristas, Associates, or Runner on shift to maintain smooth cadence in the coffee shop.
- Represents the face of Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters both on and off shift.
- Responsible for the overall effectiveness of the team, customer service, and speed of service.
- Anticipates and predicts customer needs and guides the team to meet them.
- Maintains proper upkeep, cleanliness and presentation of people, environment and products.
- Assists with any private or public events held at the store.
- Ensures operational checklists and procedures are completed at the right time.
- Verifying all opening and closing duties are completed and takes ownership of duties if not completed.
- Surmounts daily challenges within the retail environment.
- Knowledgeable and capable in any coffee shop role (Associate, Runner, & Barista).
- Assists with maintenance tasks as needed.
- Financials & Reporting
- Co-creates new initiatives with the Cafe Manager to complete daily and weekly goals.
- Hiring & Training
- Assists with training of day-to-day standard of procedures of new employees.
- Assists with external training events as needed.
- Assists with interviews as requested by Cafe Leadership.
- Inventory & Supplies
- Organizes and maintains store inventory in both the front and back of house.
- Responsible for ordering from vendors and managing deliveries.
- Conducts monthly inventory.
- Helps communicate necessary orders to the Cafe Leadership.
- Reports and communicates high waste and vendor issues to the Cafe Leadership.
- Recommends to Cafe Leadership product changes based on purchasing trends.
- Receives and verifies invoices of orders for accuracy and sends to Accounts Payable.
- Marketing & Promotion
- Manages in-store promotion of relevant items.
- Teamwork
- Not only leads, but works together with Associates, Runners and Baristas to anticipate customer needs and help complete duties on shift.
- Works schedule as assigned and covers for other team members when necessary.
- Solves complex and open-ended problems on shift with a “can-do” attitude.
- Takes on the responsibility to be an example for the team and motivates hard work.
- Responsive to staff and transparent when changes occur within the store.
Examples of these responsibilities include:
- Leading and working together with teams on shift to ensure the store is opened & closed to CWJ standard.
- Working together with Associates, Baristas, and Runners to ensure FOH & BOH of the store is kept up to standards set by Cafe Leadership.
- Assisting Educators on trainings of day-to-day stores procedures for new hires.
- Responsible for reporting inventories to Cafe Leadership.
- Responsible for completing specific financial reporting to meet goals as assigned.
