Description
The Office of Inspector General - Division of Audits and Investigations is responsible for investigating and auditing for possible fraud, waste or abuse of the programs administered by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. We conduct various types of audits and special investigations, which requires critical thinking, evaluation and research into various Cabinet policies, procedures and operations. The job provides the opportunity to gain experience on various project assignments, including some that may be high profile. Our work environment provides the ability to work a flexible work schedule, including a 4-day compressed workweek.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Performs audits and desk reviews in accordance with applicable accounting, governmental and internal auditing standards.
- Conducts internal audits regarding benefit programs administered by the cabinet.
- Assists in identifying fraud, waste and abuse of these federal and state funded benefit programs.
- Develops internal audit programs and performs professional internal auditing duties.
- Determines compliance with applicable federal and state laws, administrative regulations, and policies and procedures.
- Prepares audit workpapers, findings and reports.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of the auditing process

- Initiative and self-motivation
- Computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Ability to travel occasionally as needed
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree (which includes twenty semester hours or thirty quarter hours in accounting).
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of professional auditing experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Certification as Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor will substitute for the required education and two years of the required experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
