DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a seasonal Forest Technician, you will assist with technical forestry duties and support the district's resource and recreation management activities. You will help Foresters obtain timber volumes and use a global positioning satellite (GPS) device to survey and mark timber sale boundaries; assist district forest coordinators with insect and disease management, as well as fire prevention and suppression; and assist recreation foresters with volunteer recreational projects, events, and public contact programs.

This is a seasonal, full-time position WITHOUT benefits. The season runs from approximately March until November, at which time you will be placed on leave without pay (LWOP).

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Seasonal full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Occasional travel for training
  • Overtime is possible, but will be dependent on operational need.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • An associate’s degree in forest technology, or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.

Condition of Employment:
  • Possession of a valid PA noncommercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
