THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides advice, assistance, and guidance to veterans and their beneficiaries through outreach, intake, and counseling services for available benefits, services, and programs for which a veteran may be eligible. Some of the duties associated with this position include preparing applications with veterans to help them apply for benefits, continuing to assist veterans during the filing process, reviewing decisions made by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure the legal and maximum benefits have been awarded, and assisting veterans in the appeals process when benefits are declined.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 45-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Veterans Services Specialist, DMVA (commonwealth title); or
  • Five years of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs; or
  • One year of experience in analyzing and determining individuals' eligibility for public benefits or services programs and a bachelor's degree in human services, business administration, public administration, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • All positions in this job are required to possess valid accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a veterans service officer or eligibility for accreditation within one year from the date of employment
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial class C driver's license or equivalent that is not currently under suspension.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Willingness to work in Lebanon County.
  • Completion of military service in a branch of the United States Armed Forces and separation under honorable conditions.
  • Experience with interviewing techniques used to gather information for public assistance programs and their eligibility requirements.
  • Experience with veterans' benefits and services programs
