Position Summary

This is a part-time job at the CIS Thrift Store offering a maximum of 29 hours per week. Part-time hours will include working flexible 5–6-hour shifts Tuesday-Saturday and up to 2 Monday mornings a month. Working as a positive member of the thrift store team, providing quality customer service and displaying a good work ethic. Responsibilities include sorting/ processing donations, stocking merchandise, researching high-end products, guiding volunteers, hanging clothing, recovering the sales floor and working as a cashier. Promoting the mission of CIS and assisting in providing top quality customer service while maintaining displays, a clean work area and a positive attitude. Taking initiative daily to work together and keep the store running effectively while driving sales to raise money for CIS of South Central Texas!

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Competencies

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Continuously display a positive and friendly attitude
  • Adhere to policies of the store and expectations set by management
  • Train new volunteers in all aspects of their jobs and responsibilities at the store
  • Guide volunteers with tasks to be completed
  • Demonstrate appreciation for all volunteer's time/ work done
  • Have appropriate attire and language for a thrift store environment
  • Maintain a culture of honesty, integrity, teamwork, respect, and compassion to all employees and volunteers
  • Consult with management regularly to address issues and concerns, and to share and discuss ideas
  • Assist customers and clients with excellent service
  • Professionally resolve customer complaint and concerns in person
  • Responsibly handle cash from registers with minimal errors after training phase
  • Evaluate and process donations with quality and speed to keep sales floor stocked
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized store for all customers, employees and volunteers
  • Assist with office work such as printing tags as requested
  • Make and receive phone calls in a professional manner
  • Research items of high value using Google images and Ebay
  • Demonstrate knowledgeable of daily sales, monthly discounts, and regular prices
  • Clean restrooms, take out trash, switch out recycling bins
  • Help to load and unload furniture as needed
  • Learn opening and closing procedures, and follow after training phase
  • Keep dressing rooms clear of clothing, locked when not in use, and empty dressing room racks regularly
  • Promote Super Shopper cards as well as the store’s social media accounts
  • Process vouchers with minimal errors after training phase
  • Condense clothing racks as needed
  • Attend Staff meetings as needed
  • Treat all customers, clients of CIS, employees and volunteers with respect and care
  • Communicate with Site Coordinators regarding clients/vouchers as needed
  • Learn about the mission and operations of CISSCTX and have a good understanding about how the thrift store contributes to the continued success of the CIS mission. Educate customers, employees and volunteers about these efforts.
  • Attend trainings as needed from other departments
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Thrift/ Consignment/ Resell/ Retail experience 2 years
  • Exceptional people/ customer service skills
  • Ability to adapt and make quick decisions for daily needs
  • Desire to work hard and make a difference!

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.

  • Regularly standing for up to 6 hours
  • Frequently lift up to 25lbs solo
  • Occasionally lift up to 50lbs easily or with assistance
  • Occasionally push and pull at least 100lbs alone or with assistance
  • Move furniture with assistance of staff or dolly's
  • Climb stairs, ascend/ descend ladders and stepstools
  • Switching out rolling containers of recycling to mobile unit outside alone or with assistance
  • Exposure to both high and low temperatures outside when bringing in donations as well as rain or extreme winds
  • Noise level is typically high with high levels of distraction

Travel Requirements

  • Attend Staff Meetings at other locations
