Building Superintendent

Founded in 1974, Community Access is a pioneer of supportive housing and social services in NYC for people with mental health concerns. Our programs are spread across 25 locations and include over 1200 units of supportive housing in three boroughs, the Howie the Harp Advocacy Center, East Village Access—a PROS program, Peer-driven Crisis Respite Center, Adult Home Initiative and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT).

Department Overview

The Property Management department acts as the managing agent for buildings that Community Access (CA) develops, owns or controls. The Property Management department is responsible for lease maintenance, rent collection, property financial reports and compliance with government regulations (such as Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, HOME, and Housing Trust Fund).

Position: Building Superintendent

Work Location: Bronx, Manhattan & Brooklyn

Wage: $25.80 to $43.65

Position Overview

This is a non-live in position. The primary goal of the Building Superintendent is to provide a safe and adequate living/working environment for the residents and staff. The Building Superintendent is responsible for the daily maintenance, repairs, and building code compliance as it relates to local, state, federal requirements and agency policies and procedures for assigned buildings. They also supervise the maintenance mechanic and contracted porters. The Building Superintendent must report immediately all inspections conducted and the results of those inspections to the appropriate Program Director. Ensure all common area lighting is functional daily.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required. At least two (2) years of training or three (3) years of works experience in related trade.
• At least one (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.
• Must have experience in one or more of the following fields: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, painting.
• Must have working knowledge of equipment installation and repair, including HVAC systems.
• Must be able to operate and maintain appropriate machines such as floor buffer, trash compactor, snow blowers, etc.
• Must be fingerprinted and cleared by the New York State Justice Center.
• Must be able to regularly lift and carry items which weigh up to 100 lbs.
• Must possess and maintain current Certificate of Fitness for Fire Alarm Systems
