Schedule: Mon-Fri; 7AM-3PM
Salary: $12.01 - $14.21 Hr.

Strategic Function:
Assist teacher in maintaining classroom ratios as determined by Head Start Standards to help meet the individual needs of every child. Primary duty is to nurture the development of children through the provision of developmentally appropriate care. Secondary duty is to support the teacher in complying with the requirements of the Program Service Plans.

Duties/Responsibilities:
May include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITIES (may vary according to location):
1. Maintain ratio when replacing Center Director/Teacher One in the classroom.
2. Communicates in a positive manner with parents and helps them feel welcome in the classroom.
3. Assists in classroom preparation as assigned by the Early Head Start Teacher/Center Director.
4. Ensures appropriate supervision of all children at all times.
5. Ensures that all areas of the classroom are kept clean.
6. Assists with feeding, diapering, and cleaning children.
7. Assists with preparation of materials for instruction and the clean up of materials after lessons.
8. Will inform the Center Director/Teacher One/Child Development Coordinator of any concerns they have within the classroom.
9. Will help the Head Start Teacher walk the children to lunch. In addition, the classroom monitor will eat lunch with the Head Start children. Meal will be provided by Head Start.
10. Adhere to the Program's Mealtime procedures including maintaining a positive attitude during mealtime without using food as a reward or punishment and allowing children sufficient time to eat.
11. Assists the Head Start Teacher with walking the class to P.E.
12. Ensures safety is maintained in P.E. as well as participating in the student's activities throughout the P.E. class.
OTHER:
1. Develops a positive and productive relationship with all parents by communicating with parents in a positive manner as frequently as possible.
2. Communicates clear consistent documentation on child progress and communication with parents and relevant staff.
3. Follows safety guidelines when lifting equipment and picking up children.
4. Ensure children use classroom and playground equipment in a safe manner.
5. Adheres to work schedule as directed by Center Director/Teacher One.
6. Attends monthly parent meetings and participates as directed by the Center Director/Teacher One in all activities to provide a successful meeting.
7. Reports all suspected child abuse to the Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 and to the ERSEA and Family Engagement Coordinator.
8. Travel to sites in Hays and Caldwell counties as needed.
9. Arrives on time and works designated hours (unless otherwise specified by immediate supervisor).
10. Flexibility with work schedule and location as needed based on program needs

Qualifications:

- A High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience in an Early Education or Child Development classroom setting.

Physical Requirements:
- Be able to lift 25-30 lbs.
- Be able o walk, squat/kneel, sit on the floor, see, hear and speak with children to ensure children’s health and safety.
Other Requirements:
- At least 18 years old
- Initial Health Exam required for all Head Start staff at the employee’s expense.
- Initial and annual TB screening are required for all Head Start staff at the agency’s expense.
- Criminal Background Check required for all Head Start staff at the agency’s expense.
- Fingerprinting required for all Head Star staff at the employee’s expense.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License Class C and daily access to a vehicle.
