Perform Primary Care Giving:
o Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of every child in your care throughout your shift.
o Build strong personal relationships with each child, attending to their physical, emotional, and developmental needs.
Ensure Health and Safety:
o Always supervise children diligently.
o Implement daily health checks, cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting procedures.
o Follow the Family Style Meals format for serving food.
o Maintain health and safety records, including incident reports.
Implement a Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum:
o Utilize the Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers.
o Practice reflective planning, observation, and assessment using the DRDP assessment system online.
Individualized Approach:
o Complete all new child orientation tasks.
o Conduct developmental screenings and follow up on referrals for special services.
o Integrate screening and assessment results into classroom routines, curriculum, and individualization.
Provide Positive Guidance:
o Employ positive guidance techniques such as redirection, logical choices, and consequences.
o Consistently reinforce positive behavior and encourage children to express their feelings.
o Create a nurturing and supportive classroom environment, both physically and verbally.
Provide an Accepting Environment:
o Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for children and parents.
o Incorporate diverse cultural and linguistic materials into the learning environment.
o Support children with disabilities in alignment with their Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
Build a Partnership with Parents:
o Establish strategies to connect home and school learning, seeking parental input in the planning process.
o Regularly share information with parents about their child's growth and development.
o Conduct parent meetings, conferences, home visits, and assess each child's strengths and needs in collaboration with parents.
o Educate parents about their role in documenting monthly in-kind contributions.
Display Professionalism:
o Adhere to Head Start performance standards, CDE State regulations, and agency policies and procedures.
o Maintain respectful relations with colleagues, children, families, and the community.
o Uphold confidentiality standards and keep accurate records.
o Exhibit a positive attitude and punctuality, adhering to work schedules and procedures.
o Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 24 Units in ECE or equivalent education and experience.
- At least one (1) year of experience working with children under the age of five (5).
- Proficient computer skills and strong communication skills.
- Ability to read and write English and potentially Spanish, depending on site location.
- Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
- Clearance of background/criminal check and health assessments.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work effectively with parents from diverse backgrounds.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is desirable.
- Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards.
- Deep understanding of the importance of equity, inclusion, and diversity.
