What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Service Advocate -Head Start position at Community Action of South Eastern WV?
We are seeking a dedicated Family Advocate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for child welfare and to support families in need.
This position includes performing the necessary duties required to implement the Head Start Program’s Family and Community Engagement services, Health services, Additional services for Children with Disabilities, Transition services, and services to Enrolled Pregnant Women. Duties include, but are not limited to: making home visits, recruiting children for the program, scheduling required health services and transporting children and families to needed services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recognize parents as their children’s primary teachers and nurturers and implement intentional strategies to engage parents in their children’s learning and development and support parent-child relationships, including specific strategies for father engagement.
- Develop relationships with parents and structure services to encourage trust and respectful, ongoing two-way communication between staff and parents to create welcoming program environments that incorporate the unique cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds of families in the program and community.
- Collaborate with families in a family partnership process that identifies needs, interests,
- Provide advocacy and support services to families facing various challenges
- Conduct assessments to identify needs and develop action plans
- Collaborate with community resources to ensure families receive necessary support
- Assist families in crisis management, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution
- Advocate for children's rights and well-being within the family unit
- Monitor and evaluate family progress towards established goals
DUTIES:
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date information in the Child Plus System.
- Making home visits.
- Recruiting children for the program,.
- Scheduling required health services and transporting children and families to needed services.
- Participate in an on-going professional development plan that includes regular readings of Performance Standards and articles on the Early Childhood Knowledge and Learning Center.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bachelor's preferred
- Within 18 months of hire, at a minimum, applicant must have a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in social work, childcare, child protective services, or related field
- Experience working with children and families in crisis situations
- Strong understanding of behavioral health and family dynamics
- Ability to manage conflicts and provide effective solutions
