POSITION PURPOSE


Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County is seeking a full-time, non-exempt Medical Systems Advocate for our Domestic Violence Shelter (DVS). The purpose of the DVS Medical Systems Advocate position is to build, enhance and strengthen DVS’ relationships and collaborations with medical and behavioral health providers to improve the overall experiences of domestic violence survivors in the health care system, ensuring they are supported and connected to the resources they need.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Establish and develop relationships with health care providers across targeted sectors to improve the healthcare response to domestic violence.
  • Establish a seat at the table at current health-related community collaborations and work groups.
  • Determine through community assessment the needs of both the health care community and domestic violence survivors engaging with it - to focus the project’s outreach, advocacy, training, and services delivery efforts.
  • Identify and/or develop training and outreach programs and tools that will raise awareness and build the capacity of healthcare providers to identify and respond to domestic violence survivors and facilitate referrals to DVS and other services. Conduct trainings.
  • Build the capacity of DVS team members to respond to the healthcare and behavioral health needs of clients/survivors, with training and facilitation of referrals and resources.
  • Identify COVID-19 mitigation strategies; partner with providers on health fairs that include testing, vaccination clinics and referrals to care. Participate in overall DVS community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Work with providers to administer a client assistance fund to help meet the basic healthcare access-related needs of domestic violence survivors in Lancaster county.
  • Invite providers on site for basic health screenings, COVID and other vaccines, and educational/informational sessions for DV survivors.


EDUCATION
, SKILLS & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred, including public health, nursing, community health, and/or the equivalent education and experience within the sector.
  • Domestic violence medical advocate experience will be considered.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Bilingual skills a plus/not required.
  • Training/education experience strongly desired – and/or a high comfort level at presenting to training audiences.
  • Background clearances must be obtained prior to start of employment: PA Police Record Check, PA Child Abuse History, FBI Fingerprint Record check through PA DHS.
  • Social justice mindset. Strong desire to participate in and promote a trauma-informed, empowering culture that celebrates diversity.
