Supervisor Responsibilities: No
Location: Assigned to support CEDA WIC Clinics in south region (Harvey, Blue Island and Chicago Heights). This is a floating position so candidate will work at all of the sites in this region on a rotating basis.
Schedule: 8:00a – 4:30p; Monday - Friday; some Saturdays; schedule subject to change based on program needs
Purpose: The WIC Advocate is primarily responsible for conducting and documenting WIC intake services, client scheduling and facilitating client communications; conducting community based outreach; instructing how to use EBT card and client shopping list; overseeing all vendor issues; providing basic breastfeeding information, support, and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in the community.
Responsibilities:
- Promotes a welcoming, accommodating, and “baby friendly” environment for all clients seeking WIC services.
- Enters program intake, client information, breastfeeding contacts and referrals into IWIC.
- Conducts all Voter Registration activities.
- Scans all applicable documents into IWIC.
- Verifies participant’s eligibility and reviews program consent with clients.
- Instructs all clients how to use the EBT card, shopping list, and IWIC app.
- Intervenes and resolves all vendor issues including preparing and submitting vendor complaints.
- Obtains and documents client anthropometric measurements utilizing length/height boards, scales, head circumference tapes and non-invasive hemoglobin monitors.
- Manages all client schedules and all client communications to maximize client participation (telephone, voicemail, in person, email, and virtual).
- Ensures all clients are scheduled for and receive required secondary education contacts.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Complete intensive breastfeeding education training during first year of employment. Upon successful completion of Breastfeeding Peer Counselor/Education training, WIC Advocate earns title of BFPC (Breastfeeding Peer Counselor) or BFPE (Breastfeeding Peer Educator) depending on previous breastfeeding experience.
- Verbal fluency in Spanish required for this position (ability to translate to and from English and Spanish)
- Experience in a nonprofit, social service organization, or a Community Based Organization (CBO) is a plus
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Internet (Edge, Chrome)
- Experience working with various socioeconomic populations is a plus
