What are the responsibilities and job description for the Violence Intervention Specialist position at Community for New Direction?

POSITION SUMMARY:


Grant Funded position. If funding is available the position will be extended. Violence Intervention Specialist will work as a liaison between youth, parents and teachers. Provide high-risk youth with strategies for violence intervention, crisis response actions and promote conflict resolution. Will work with primarily youth and young adults ages 14-23.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participates as a community liaison and responds to neighborhood, gang, youth and family conflicts within assigned areas, using the Intervention process.
  • Works with youth to provide gang remediation activities, anti-bullying and violence reduction interventions.
  • Mentors and guides youth individually and in groups, while using a behavior management system to shape youth behavior.
  • Addresses conflict with crisis intervention methods such as verbal de-escalation, peace and reframing strategies.
  • Recruits a minimum of 50 youth and young adults ages 14-23.
  • Connects clients to needed services within the community and provides transportation.
  • Maintains appropriate daily, weekly and monthly record keeping and document progress every six months.
  • Participates in staff meetings, committees, attend professional development conferences, trainings, webinars/seminars as needed to as enhance your knowledge, broaden your horizon and obtain continued education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor to promote the overall mission and vision of CND.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in the social/behavioral sciences or related field is preferred; or a high school diploma or equivalent, with three years of professional experience in the social service field. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

  • Ability to work with diverse population with understanding of basic crime data and trends.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Experience with violence prevention and intervention, street outreach and gang affiliation.


Other Requirements: Must have valid Ohio drivers license; pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check. Fully Covid-19 vaccinated.
