SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator, the Volunteer Specialist is responsible for carrying out mandated volunteer program activities within Community Hospice.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares for and attends, when needed, weekly Interdisciplinary Team Meetings; participates in creating the Plan of Care for each patient as required by Medicare Conditions of Participation.
- Assists the Volunteer Coordinator in the ongoing recruitment, selection, education, supervision, evaluation and retention of volunteers to serve as support for hospice families, patients, staff, and ongoing hospice projects
- Assists the Volunteer Coordinator in conducting volunteer orientation and training both at Community Hospice and within the community, on an as needed basis.
- Responsible for maintaining mandated documentation regarding all volunteers and volunteer activity within the hospice organization and for patient medical records.
- Provides information to individuals and community groups about hospice volunteer services and opportunities.
- Assists the Volunteer Coordinator in evaluating existing volunteers as to their appropriateness in performing their responsibilities.
- Collects volunteer data sufficient to meet both internal and external organizational needs and prepares monthly statistics reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Continually assesses volunteer program to determine effectiveness and improve volunteer retention.
- Actively participates in the hospice's annual agency audit and the quality management program.
- Follows all Community Hospice policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, infection control, privacy and confidentiality, and HIPAA
- Performs other duties as assigned, including work in other areas to cover absences or relief to equalize peak work periods or otherwise meet the needs of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education (currently possessing, or able to obtain, certified volunteer training by a recognized state or national organization) or extensive knowledge of volunteers and volunteerism processes. Program coordination experience desirable.
- Minimum one year experience in a hospice or social services setting preferred.
- Minimum one year experience in a position that requires integration of volunteer services.
- Excellent computer, data entry, and database maintenance skills required.
- Ability to organize and develop volunteer hospice personnel for both patient and organizational needs.
- Professional attitude, sensitivity to volunteers and to hospice work.
- Valid California Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position works in an office environment using a computer and general office equipment.
WORK SCHEDULE: Position is regular full-time required to work a regularly scheduled 40-hour workweek, with overtime as needed to meet the needs of the organization.
