Logistics Manager
Reports to: Culinary Operations Director
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work as required. Daily schedule varies between 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM based on operational needs.
Salary Range: $50,000–$55,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
About Community Kitchen Pittsburgh
Community Kitchen Pittsburgh is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit food service company, using food to change lives and strengthen communities. We provide meals and meal access to vulnerable individuals and families, support food advocacy and education, and train adults with barriers to employment for career-pathway work in the food industry. Our operations include contract food preparation, catering, events, and a food truck.
Position Overview
The Logistics Manager oversees the daily logistics of food service operations, including delivery, pack out, and fleet management. This position supervises a team of drivers, inventory and pack-out staff, while ensuring compliance with health regulations, customer satisfaction, and continuous operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery Oversight
· Assign drivers to routes and ensure correct vehicle usage.
· Ensure timely, accurate deliveries and communicate any delays to customers.
· Review and adjust delivery sheets based on change orders.
· Troubleshoot delivery issues and coordinate coverage for absences.
· Maintain and coordinate the vehicle fleet, including inspection and service scheduling.
· Ensure accurate documentation of delivery corrections for proper invoicing.
Pack Out & Staging
· Ensure meals are properly portioned, packed, labeled, and stored.
· Oversee daily staging and loading zone readiness 20 minutes prior to departure.
· Assist with pack out as needed and resolve missing item or portioning issues.
Inventory & Receiving
· Develop and maintain par levels in coordination with the inventory team.
· Oversee organization and rotation of stock, including usage of donated food.
· Communicate low inventory or production issues with kitchen and operations teams.
Customer Service
· Work with culinary leadership to ensure contract and regulation compliance.
· Serve as a liaison with customers for delivery updates or issue resolution.
Safety & Quality Assurance
· Final check on food packaging, quality, and order accuracy before departure.
· Enforce food safety and sanitation protocols across warehouse and storage areas.
· Maintain compliance with legal and health regulations.
Operational Improvements
· Develop and document SOPs for logistics, delivery, fleet, and inventory operations.
· Train staff on operational procedures and ensure adherence.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Personal vehicle with required insurance (for emergency coverage)
- ServSafe Manager Certification required within 30 days of employment (training provided on-site)
Preferred Experience
- General management in high-volume food service or logistics environments
- Inventory management and purchasing experience
- Understanding of food access issues and donated food regulations
- Experience supervising teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven organization
